Future Artists Projects

The Future Artists Projects is an exciting new part of the Child Players ACT repertoire that aims to nurture and support theatrical artists of our future. Each project will have Child Players ACT mentors to share their expertise and knowledge to help develop the skill sets of emerging artists and guide them through the process of creating successful theatre productions. Projects may range from creating traditional theatrical works, through to unique collaborations with professional artists to develop a variety of different performance mediums to produce exciting new theatrical works. This projects builds on the Emerging Directors Programs from past years with the hope that it allows talented young artists the opportunity to realise their creative dreams. If you have an idea or project that you think might be suitable, please contact us.

Previous Emerging Director Projects:

  • Thumbelina (2026)

  • Hating Alison Ashley (2009)

Cat in the Hat (2026)

Child Players ACT is proud to present our latest collaborative project - Dr Seuss's The Cat in the Hat, originally produced by The National Theatre of London. In collaboration with professional circus artist Jeff Young (link to bio) this production will incorporate elements of circus arts, clowning and acrobatics to elevate the performance of Seuss's classic story for a young audience. Our show will give young people aged 12 and up the opportunity to work with professional adult performers and circus artists to develop their physical performance skills in a theatre environment. One of the aims of this production is to showcase a number of different aspects of physical performance including acting, dance, mime, juggling, unicycling, gymnastics, floor acrobatics, partner acrobatics and puppetry.

This production is part of the Future Artists Projects and young people who wish to participate will need to submit a short audition video showcasing their physical theatre skills. Please read the audition pack [pack link] carefully and register your interest via the Expression of Interest [form link].

This production is designed for a small onstage cast however there may be further opportunities for backstage and front of house roles.
