Script Writting - Building Blocks (Beginners)

Who This Course Is For

Everyone, aged 12 and up, who wants to learn the art of script writing. No previous experience required, yet also suitable for students with creative writing experience. This course is suitable for both complete script writing beginners to those who have written scripts for fun. The class size will remain small, so that all students receive individual attention. Student will also be expected to devote some time to writing outside of class time.

What Students Will Learn

  • Character Archetypes: Learn how to create unique and unforgettable heroes, villains, and sidekicks.

  • Narrative Structure: Master the secret blueprints that make stories hook an audience from start to finish.

  • The Art of Comedy: Discover the science of timing, punchlines, and making people laugh out loud.

  • Writing for Children’s Theatre: Learn the unique, high-energy skill of writing scripts specifically for young audiences.

The Script Writing Journey: From Page to Stage

This Script Writing Beginner course is just the first step in a multi-term creative journey. 

This unique pathway takes students from complete beginners, who may never have written a line of dialogue, and transforms them into produced playwrights. By the end of the year, their original short plays will be produced by a team of creatives and performed live onstage!

Script Writing Journey, step-by-step:

  1. Script Writing - Building Blocks (Beginner): Term 1 or Term 2, 2027

    Note: This is a 1 term course. The same beginners course will be delivered in Term 1 and Term 2.

  2. Script Writing - Page to Stage (Advanced): Term 3, 2027

    The Next Level: Students will write an original short play or musical tailored specifically written for a young audience.

    Note: This program is only open to students who have completed The Script Writing – Building Blocks (Beginners) in Term 1 or Term 2.  

  3. Creative Collaboration (Production): Term 4, 2027

    Short Play Festival: Watch your words come to life! Script Writers will work collaboratively with directors, actors, stage managers, sound designers, costume designers, and prop designers to see their script fully produced and performed live onstage in front of an audience as part of Child Players’ annual Short Play Festival. 

    • Students who are keen to do multiple roles will be put into groups so they can all take turns acting, directing etc… for each other’s scripts.

      Note: This course is only open to students who have complete the Script Writing - Page to Stage (Advanced) course.

Scrit Writing - Building Blocks (Beginners) Class Schedule: Term 1, 2027

  • Day: Saturday 6 Feb – 10 April  

  • Time: 4pm - 6pm

REFUND POLICY

Refunds due to withdrawal from the program will only be provided if there is enough time to fill the place from the waiting list. All refunds will incur a 10% administration fee. No refunds are available after the program begins.

WORKING WITH VULNERABLE PEOPLES (WWVP) CARD
All participants over the age of 16 will need to hold a WWVP card. You/your child can apply for a volunteer one here.
